  • Mike Hopkins

    Graphic Designer

    Mike has an extensive background in graphic design. Being a branding enthusiast, he has helped design logos and websites for several companies. He also has volunteered for BYU-Idaho Talent Activities, designing posters for different events around campus. For a time, Mike was a Graphic Design Minor at BYU-Idaho. Although he did not complete the minor in order to graduate and enter the workforce sooner, he has taken several offered classes in graphic and web design.

    Account Executive

    Mike spent a half year as an AAE with FCB Health in New York City.
    Prior to that, as an Account Executive for Soapbox Agency in Rexburg, ID, Mike worked with a variety of clients. Beginning as an Assistant Account Executive in September of 2012, he proved himself a valuable asset to the agency. He became an Account Executive at the end of 2012, and then was promoted to Traffic Manager. Creatively, he was the Agency Manager of Soapbox for the back half of 2013.

    Copywriter

    Since he was young, Mike has been writing. Writing slogans, writing taglines, brainstorming ways to sell a product that people hadn't thought of. Oh yeah, and he's been dropping puns like they were both hot and crossed since he first learned to speak. Once he learned what copywriting was and that he could write for ads for a living, he was sold. He has since been pursuing his life-long dream of working in copy in The Big Apple, also while learning the ins and outs of agency life.

    Musician

    As the bassist of his band, The Hucksters, Mike was able to collaborate creatively with his two other bandmates to make some of the best indie blues rock West of the Mississippi. This synergy produced a record, several EPs and a single, as well as a three-state tour. He also plays guitar, harmonica, piano, ukulele and drums. Other projects have included The Locals, Nessie, Nova Coda, Tandem and Chasing Abigail. He can occasionally be found busking in the subways of New York.

    On May 17th of 1990, all the nurses in Rex Hospital rushed to see a baby that had been described as "perfect" by the attending residents. It was bald, slender and fair-skinned. One of the nurses described seeing the child as a "reassurance that the human race had beauty." Also, on the same day, Mike Hopkins was born - hairy, fat and tan. His nurse described her experience as "meh." Now in his 26th year, Mike enjoys collecting vinyl records, seeing Mets games, and taking care of his cat, Mr. Frost.

    Public Relations Specialist

    Mike's first foray into communications was with public relations. After a PRSSA trip to Provo, UT for a regional conference, he knew it was something he had a knack for. He declared it his emphasis and his studies have focused primarily in this area and he has created and executed several PR plans for local and national businesses. He has also served as a member of the BYU-Idaho PRSSA executive board for three years, as Vice President and then President in 2013.
